How easy was Exonar to deploy?

This was a really easy piece. We started off on this journey in October 2019 with a proof of concept in the UK, and very quickly (by January 2020) started to scale up to an operational platform. The Exonar Reveal platform comes with embedded connectors so, it was literally a boiler template exercise. It literally was a case of here’s a PowerPoint, here’s the documentation, now build out that Azure instance for us, download the Exonar instance into Azure and then we work on creating connectors.

If you have a large legacy estate is it a challenge to connect?

Here’s one example. When we went into one of our European countries to build out Exonar Reveal we started building on Tuesday and by Friday, we were ready to start connecting and ingesting data. The key learning point is that the restriction is not with the Exonar capabilities, the restrictions are internal resources and having technical resource available to build out an Azure instance to assist with data connections. If you are able to bring that together within your team then it’s a very easy win.

Was there anything on the compliance side that you had to go through?

You have 3 types of data, the good the bad and the ugly. The good data is within your retention period, you own it. The bad data is where you’ve fallen out of the retention period. The ugly is the data that makes us all have restless nights - that is the unstructured data that we don’t have any control over.

Using Exonar we’ve been able to find and delete the records that fall out of policy, or we don’t need. We were able to show the regulators what we are doing in each country, making them really enthusiastic and ensuring we were fully compliant. We have a product (Exonar), a programme that was stood up, and a delivery plan. It’s about building out that framework around what your data risks are and getting to a point where the quality and the compliance of your data is at a more accurate level and you are reducing that risk accordingly.
